M I A  B U C H I G N A N I already embarked on an active singing career by her late teens with no formal training.  She has played leading roles in both traditional and experimental operas, musical theater and has been featured in several cabaret venues both nationally and abroad. She went overseas to continue her musical education, with private and conservatory study in Brussels, Belgium.  She was the winner of several awards, including the San Francisco 2000 Cabaret Competition for foreign language performance.

M I A has written and performed four one-woman shows, featuring the music of German composer, Kurt Weill.  "Contemporary music lacks the reality of life that Weill, with the collaboration of Bertolt Brecht, depicts so vividly." Surabaya Johnny and Youkali are Mia's signature Weill peices. "Youkali portrays Weill's essence of sehnsucht, the longing but impossibility of being happy, the darkness of utopia, the realization that one must make something of life no matter how bleak the future looks. It is this reality I crave in music; music of the common man. We don't hear this in contemporary music."

M I A' s supple and expressive voice spans five languages and ranges from the depths of the seductive gems of Kurt Weill to the ripping passion of Astor Piazzolla to the complex and playful lyricism of Cy Coleman and to the traditional chansons of Edith Piaf. Truly an artist, she brings new life to music of the past.

She is the featured vocalist with Ensemble Bizou, the Golden Gate Ensembles and the Peninsula Pops Orchestra and is known throughout the tango community for her exceptional work with Strictly Tango.  Mia performs regularly in the California Bay Area.

Most recently, M I A has expanded her vocal talents to include personalized ringtones for the French cell phone market and voiceover work in both French and English for commercial and industrial projects.

M I A splits her time between San Francisco, California and Doha,Qatar.
